Arthur Aidala, the attorney representing Harvey Weinstein during his appeal case, spoke with Good Day New York recently regarding recent developments surrounding Weinstein’s imprisonment following an appellate court ruling overturning his 2020 rape conviction due to evidence that should not have been presented before the jury. According to Aidala, upon returning to New York City after being transferred from a prison near Albany, Weinstein was hospitalized at Bellevue Hospital for several medical exams following complaints of various health issues. The lawyer stated that his client’s physical condition is “somewhat of a train wreck” and requires extensive testing before he can be returned to the Rikers Island jail complex where other inmates are being housed, including those who have contracted COVID-19 while awaiting trial or sentencing hearings. In an interview with Fox5 NY earlier this month, Weinstein’s wife, Georgina Chapman, said that she is committed to supporting her husband through his legal battles and has not filed for divorce despite their separation in 2017 following allegations of sexual assault against him by multiple women. Aidala also mentioned during the interview with Good Day New York that Weinstein’s mental state remains strong, but he may have difficulty adjusting to a retrial as prosecutors plan to retry him on charges stemming from incidents in 2006 and 2013. The lawyer stated his intention to request that any potential trial be postponed until after Labor Day when courts typically return from summer break.
