Convicted Lawyer Avenatti Hesitant Between Biden and Trump Over Border Crisis, Economic Issues

Michael Avenatti, currently serving an 19-year prison sentence for crimes including extortion and fraud, has expressed uncertainty about whether to support President Joe Biden or Donald Trump in the upcoming election. Despite previously endorsing Biden as his top pick in 2020, he now views both candidates with a critical eye on issues such as border security and the economy. Avenatti described the situation at the US-Mexico border as “a disaster” and warned that it is only a matter of time before someone crosses the border and commits a serious crime in America. He also criticized Biden’s economic policies, describing them as a catastrophe.
The Biden and Trump campaigns did not respond to requests for comment on Avenatti’s statements. It should be noted that due to his imprisonment, Avenatti is unable to vote himself. The once-prominent attorney gained national attention in 2018 with his representation of Stormy Daniels against President Donald Trump but has since been convicted and sentenced for multiple crimes including extortion and fraud. In a surprising turnaround, he now appears sympathetic towards the former president as he faces criminal charges related to hush money payments made during the 2016 election campaign. Avenatti insists that his newfound support is not an attempt to win favour with Trump but instead represents his genuine view of events in the case. While once predicting that Donald Trump would fail to complete his first term as President, he now declines to speculate on whether Trump will finish a second potential term due to legal issues surrounding him at present. However, Avenatti warned that this year’s flood of criminal charges against Trump could potentially play into the former president’s hands politically. Clark Brewster, an attorney representing Stormy Daniels, dismissed Avenatti as “a thrice convicted felon for fraud, repeated acts of dishonesty and extortion” who is merely attempting to find relevance through his time behind bars.
