PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns’ highly anticipated superteam of Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant and Devin Booker failed to deliver in the playoffs this year as they were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves with a four-game sweep. Despite an impressive 49 points from Booker and 33 points from Durant in Game 4, Phoenix lacked cohesiveness and consistency on court due in part to major injuries suffered by Beal during the first half of the season as well as questionable roster construction that saw Booker and Beal being tasked with handling the point guard position. The Suns’ future now hangs in balance as general manager James Jones has limited options under the league’s salary cap, given Durant, Booker and Beal all have high salaries while Grayson Allen recently received a $70 million extension after leading the NBA in 3-point shooting percentage this season. The team’s coach Frank Vogel is also facing an uncertain future following their early playoff exit, although he remains hopeful for another year at his position due to the full support of owner Mat Ishbia. Durant and Booker will represent Team USA during the Paris Olympics in July as they reflect on a disappointing season that saw them struggle with consistency both individually and collectively.
