American Teens Fight Back Against Potential TikTok Ban as China Threatens Retaliation

Fox News senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram reports on American teens utilizing the short-form video platform, TikTok, as they challenge potential restrictions placed upon the app by lawmakers in Washington D.C. In response to national security concerns and accusations of collecting user data and spreading propaganda, China has threatened “resolute and forceful steps” if President Biden’s recent bill goes into effect without modification. The legislation offers foreign aid to Ukraine and Israel while also forcing TikTok’s Chinese-based owner ByteDance to sell the app or face a ban in America within nine months of its enactment, with an additional three-month extension possible for ongoing sales negotiations. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian has criticized this decision as violating principles of market economy and fair competition while also endangering Chinese sovereignty by offering substantial military assistance to Taiwanese officials, sending “seriously wrong signals” regarding the country’s independence movement. TikTok itself denies being a security risk but is planning legal action in opposition to the proposed ban on their platform.
