Dallas Cowboys Bring Back Former Star Running Back Ezekiel Elliott on One-Year, $3M Deal With Guaranteed Money

The Dallas Cowboys are bringing back a prominent figure from their recent past by inviting him back to Arlington, TX. After Jerry Jones expressed strong interest in re-signing Ezekiel Elliot, the team officially sealed the deal with a one-year contract worth $3 million that includes $2 million in guaranteed money.
Elliot originally joined Dallas as its fourth overall pick during the 2016 NFL Draft and spent his first seven seasons wearing the star on his helmet for the franchise before it opted to let him go following the 2022 season. After being released by Dallas, Elliot signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots as their running back depth was depleted due to injuries.
As the year progressed in Foxborough, he became an integral part of the team’s offense and proved himself as a reliable threat both on the ground and through the air out of the backfield. Despite an overall poor performance from the Patriots offense during that campaign, Elliot was one of its few bright spots, totaling 955 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns in his time with New England.
Following Dallas’ draft night conversations where Jones emphasized that Elliott still remains a top candidate on their roster despite competing at different team affiliations lately due to factors including personnel movement across franchises, CBS Sports picked up an interview by Jerry during the event, where he acknowledged Ezekiel’s capabilities in Foxborough as reasons behind his continued interest.
“We talked about this last night too: Is Zeke someone of interest? Yeah, he is someone of interest,” Jones said to CBS Sports on Friday. “I saw him play his last games with New England. I thought he played well enough to be a starter.” Pelissero added that the Cowboys’ current running back depth chart isn’t particularly strong and Elliott could potentially assume starting duties once again in Dallas as a result of this situation.
In summary, Ezekiel Elliot is returning home after being released by his original team to join forces with Jerry Jones’ Cowboys for another season that includes $2 million guaranteed under the new one-year deal signed earlier today.
