Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized the importance of not letting anyone take away one’s power and being intentional in understanding what is within our control, as she responded to remarks about her distinct laughter. The comments were made during a conversation with Drew Barrymore on her talk show where Harris also spoke about how people are still getting used to seeing women in positions of leadership like hers.
Barrymore noted that Harris’ laugh was something she enjoyed, which led the Vice President to share some background information about it. She explained that growing up around a group of strong-willed and humorous females had influenced her laughter style, as they would often gather together for lively conversations filled with hearty chuckles.
Harris also made clear that she wouldn’t change anything about the way she laughs despite some criticisms she has faced regarding it in connection to responses to border crisis questions or discussions on female leadership. She stated emphatically, “I am not someone who is going to tone down my laughter just because somebody else doesn’t like how I sound.”
Barrymore agreed and added that Harris should be commended for inspiring people of all ages by remaining true to herself while rejecting societal expectations about what women ought to act or appear like. The Vice President also made a brief appearance on the “I’ve Had It” podcast where she responded affirmatively when asked if she had indeed grown tired of former president Trump, describing his conduct as “aggressive rhetoric.” She asserted that leaders with compassion and empathy for others’ suffering are real trailblazers. Harris also agreed partially to a hostess on the show who warned against treating this year’s election cycle like any other because it could potentially be America’s last democratic vote in 2024.
