“New Princess Market” Owner Opposes San Francisco’s Retail Curfew Proposal for Safety Concerns

‘New Princess Market’ owner Willie Masarweh appeared as a guest on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend’ to share his views on San Francisco’s proposed retail curfew. Residents and small businesses in the city are growing increasingly concerned about this new legislation, which would force some establishments selling prepacked food or tobacco products to close between 12 am (midnight) and 5 am in certain parts of town. Masarweh expressed his doubts that such a curfew will be effective as he believes most criminal activities occur during the day when police are around anyway. In fact, this new legislation is expected to hurt businesses like New Princess Market which operates in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district – an area notorious for high crime rates and homelessness issues. Masarweh warned that the proposed curfew will impact customers who work overnight shifts as they depend on his store to buy essential items, forcing them to walk blocks alone during dark hours, exposing them further risks in these unsafe neighborhoods where shops have previously experienced theft, vandalism, and drug activities almost weekly. While police reactions were mixed towards this proposed law with some stating it may deter crowds and ultimately help reduce crime levels; other businesses such as Rafael’s co-owner David Rafael argues that San Francisco’s progressive policies only seem to attract more homelessness into the city which leads to further criminal activities. Masarweh emphasized his role in being a witness against any crimes happening around his store and neighboring establishments, stating he would always call the police if necessary as they play an essential part in controlling crime levels during daytime hours when these issues generally occur anyway.
