Kelces Make Major Moves: Jason Joins ESPN and Brother Travis Signs Record-Breaking Deal

Today marks a significant day for the Kelce brothers as news surfaces that Jason Kelce has joined ESPN to be part of “Monday Night Countdown,” shortly after reports emerged that Travis Kelce, his brother and tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, signed a two-year contract extension. Ian Rapoport from NFL Network first reported this development while also acknowledging Mike Simon’s contributions as Kelce’s agent in announcing it on Twitter.
Kelce has previously expressed dissatisfaction with being underpaid but claimed that he is contented because all he wants is to win, stating during an interview last summer: “My managers and agents love to tell me how underpaid I am every time I talk about wanting more money; they say ‘Why don’t you go to the Chiefs and ask them?’”
Now it seems that Kelce has indeed approached his team regarding a pay raise, as Rapoport reported. With this agreement, Travis will reportedly surpass Rob Gronkowski to become the highest-paid tight end in NFL history based on average annual value (AAV). Previously, Darren Waller held the record for AAV at $17 million per year while George Kittle had the largest total contract worth ($75M), and T.J. Hockenson received the most guaranteed money ($40.2M) according to Spotrac’s records as of now it remains uncertain if Kelce is inching toward becoming football history’ first TE with an AAV exceeding $20 million per year.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has been a teammate and friend of Travis for several years, reacted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to the news about his brother-in-law’s new contract extension. The duo won their third Super Bowl title together in February after securing back-to-back championship victories last year.
As Kelce’s career continues with the Chiefs, football fans can only wonder which milestone will come first: Travis Kelce retiring from NFL or his relationship with pop sensation Taylor Swift coming to an end?
