Padma Lakshmi may have natural beauty, but what truly matters to her is being appreciated for her sense of humor. The author and producer shared this tidbit in a chat with The New Yorker, explaining that the same thing draws her towards witty men also makes her attracted to comedy. In fact, she’s been developing a new project with ‘Bridesmaids’ director Paul Feig – a comedic series which Lakshmi would both produce and star in.
Lakshmi has already dipped her toes into the world of stand-up by performing at New York City’s famous Comedy Cellar, saying that she finds humor just as intriguing as men with good senses of humor – revealing: “That’s what I like spending time doing”. Recently having graced the small screens via a cameo on ‘Saturday Night Live’, Lakshmi is hoping to make an official hosting appearance on ‘SNL’. Alongside that, she’s completed some coursework at comedic school Upright Citizens Brigade.
Her recent foray into comedy took shape in the form of her sold-out show ‘Padma Puts On a Comedy Show’, which featured performances by Phoebe Robinson, Michelle Buteau and Jaboukie Young-White – all close friends whom Lakshmi enjoys working with while honing her skills.
Lakshmi has also made it clear that she’s not looking to make light of herself on social media either – rather building the confidence for some risky live routines behind safe space contextual frameworks, as opposed to potentially damaging her career by doing so online.
