Catastrophic destruction has emerged outside Omaha, Nebraska as a result of an intense twister that was spotted in the area over the weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) reported at least 60 tornadoes, ranging from EF-0 to EF-4 intensity levels, which wreaked havoc across Texas and Iowa since Friday.
The NWS continues with assessments as its teams survey damage caused by the violent weather system that struck several towns like Elkhorn in Nebraska and Minden in Iowa demanding specialist relief services’ involvement for investigative purposes due to substantial ruins therein. Gray Sky Team of Geospatial Insurance Consortium (GIC), an insurance association, provides imagery as well as data post-calamity scenarios that were evidently demonstrated by the tornado outbreak over the Plains and Midwest during this past weekend’s occurrence.
The GIC sent its pilots to take high definition footage of densely populated zones impacted with notable wreckage after receiving warnings about probable destructive effects on specific regions like Elkhorn in Nebraska, which were verified by NWS investigations revealing a grade three EF-tornado (EF3) wreaking havoc. Before and after pictures depict an area within the vicinity of this region with more than ten buildings levelled entirely from their foundation slabs; before tornadic actions hit here.
The GIC also shared images taken by its aerial survey teams in Blair, Nebraska that showed significant damage caused to structures therein as well. The NWS confirmed at least EF-1 level of destruction for Council Bluffs and Crescent within Iowa during this weather outbreak. In total, the violent storm system has led to five deaths across two states since Friday; a figure which continues rising with each passing hour due to ongoing search operations in affected areas.
