Charlotte Shooting: 3 U.S. Marshals, 2 Local Officers Killed during Firearms Possession Arrest

Three officers from a U.S. Marshals task force lost their lives while serving an arrest warrant for a firearm possession offender in Charlotte, North Carolina. One federal marshal and two local police officers working with the fugitive task force were killed during the operation. In addition to them, one additional member of the task force and four other law enforcement officials from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department also sustained gunshot wounds. The condition of one wounded officer was critical at a news briefing held on Monday afternoon by authorities. A total number of eight officers were shot during this incident as per police reports, while they revealed that the suspect involved in the case had been fatally shot too. As mentioned by local officials earlier in an update shared via X social media platform, the violence broke out when a U.S. Marshals task force was conducting investigations against someone who possessed firearms despite being convicted felons at around 2 p.m. The police warned people to avoid visiting the area of Galway Drive where gunfire continued unabated as per their post on X social media platform. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper expressed his condolences over this tragic incident and offered state resources for assistance in a tweet via X.
