Northwestern University has faced criticism from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) following its agreement with anti-Israel protesters, which allows demonstrations to continue until June and demands that any acts of “doxing” be condemned. The ADL labelled the deal as “reprehensible”, “dangerous”, and an example of poor leadership, while noting concerns regarding safety and academic life at the Illinois institution. Jewish groups have been particularly critical, stating their confusion about what commitments were made by protesters to halt anti-Semitic rhetoric or actions against Jews on campus. The ADL also downgraded Northwestern’s rating for antisemitism from a ‘C’ to an “F”. In comparison with its fellow Chicago school, Columbia University stated it couldn’t reach agreement with demonstrators and began issuing suspensions after the 2 p.m. deadline passed on Monday afternoon.
