During an interview on MSNBC’s Katy Tur Reports yesterday (October 26), US House Representative Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California, criticized host Katy Tur for suggesting that the job market during Donald Trump’s presidency had been affected by COVID-19. “I have sympathy and respect for everybody who votes,” said Pelosi. “But there are those who have real legitimate concerns about immigration, globalization, innovation, and what does that mean for their job and their family’s future, and we have to address those concerns.” She then praised Joe Biden, claiming he had created 9 million jobs during his time in office while Trump has the worst record of any president regarding employment loss. Tur challenged this statement by highlighting the impact of COVID-19 on the economy but Pelosi responded defensively: “He [Trump] had the worst record of any President… We’ve had other concerns in our country.” When Tur suggested that she was being an apologist for Trump, Pelosi replied firmly: “No, let me just say as Speaker of the House we put forth a $3 trillion bill to invest in communities and create jobs. But you’ll have to forgive me – I cannot subscribe to the fact that he [Trump] would be President.”
