Urgent Recall: Vermont-Based Company’s Frozen Meat Pizza Contains Undisclosed Allergen

A Vermont-based company is initiating a recall for over 8,000 boxes of frozen meat pizza sold at New England retailers and fundraisers due to the presence of a hazardous allergen that isn’t listed on the packaging. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued an alert regarding nearly 8,220 pounds of frozen meat pizza manufactured by 802 VT Frozen in Newport, Vermont. The “802 VT Frozen MEAT!!! CRISPY WOOD-FIRED CRUST HAND MADE PIZZA” packaging fails to disclose the inclusion of soy.
The affected items were produced between April 25, 2023, and April 25, 2024, with an establishment number “EST. 46308” marked on their USDA insignia situated in front. The recalled products were distributed to fundraisers as well as retail establishments within Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont during the aforementioned period of production.
The discovery that soy was included without labeling it on the packaging came about through routine Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) procedures facilitated by FSIS agents for recalls- a normal task mandated at its facilities. The USDA recalled nearly 8,000 boxes of frozen meat pizza manufactured by a Vermont-based company.
WebMD states that allergic reactions to soy could present themselves as symptoms like tingling, hives, itching or swelling on lips and mouth regions, wheezing, abdominal discomfort, nausea or vomiting; however, more severe responses may include difficulty breathing, shock, rapid heart rate, dizziness, fainting or loss of consciousness.
Although the FDA has not received any reports regarding adverse reactions to this product as yet, consumers are advised against consuming it and should discard the affected products immediately instead opt for a return to where they were purchased from. The FDA also advises individuals who have concerns about experiencing an allergic reaction to contact their healthcare provider without delay.
