Luck Saves Ice Cream Stand as Driver Crashes Through Parking Lot in Bellingham

A Massachusetts ice cream stand owner expressed gratitude after an out-of-control driver crashed his truck through their parking lot on Sunday evening. The incident occurred before the business, Chevy’s Ice Cream Parlor in Bellingham, was scheduled to open for the season due to weather and other circumstances delaying its opening. Surveillance footage captured the speeding vehicle veering off Route 126 at around 7:26 p.m., striking a sign stanchion before splitting between two parked vehicles and crashing through a fence into another convenience store parking lot nearby. No one was injured in the incident, but had Chevy’s been open as usual with its typical crowd of customers enjoying ice cream and music, it could have resulted in a “massacre,” according to Shayna Murray, who owns and operates the family-run stand along with her family. Additionally fortunate was the parked car beside the fence which held people inside during the time, including one woman and her infant, whose life was potentially saved due to delayed opening plans. Bellingham Police cited 38-year-old Robert Marcoux for operating under the influence, operating to endanger, marked lanes violation, and speeding after the incident; further charges are possible.
