Schefter proposes new theory for Spencer Rattler’s steep NFL Draft slide, contrasting Rapoport’s report on reality showAlternative title (shorter): “Schefer explains why Rattler fell far in draft”

Adam Schefter proposed a new theory for why former Oklahoma and South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler slipped down so significantly during this year’s NFL Draft, contrasting Ian Rapoport’s report that many teams were turned off by his appearance on a high school reality show. According to Schefer, the two main contenders vying for Rattler – Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons – selected their preferred quarterbacks earlier than anticipated, which led other squads hesitant about choosing him due to perceived availability in future rounds, thereby affecting Rattler’s selection later into round five.
In Schefer’s opinion, based on conversations with insiders, the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons were among teams that favored Spencer Rattler over others, leading his stock. However, both clubs picked their preferred quarterbacks beforehand, leaving no room for Rattler to secure a prominent spot early in round one or two – ultimately influencing him getting chosen towards late rounds of the draft.
While Schefer’s theory seems plausible, it is still unclear why teams would not have considered selecting Rattler at lower picks (late third and fourth) despite his sliding position during the later stages of the NFL Draft process. After all, such moves might seem more justifiable considering how rare a team hits on an effective player in late rounds.
In any case, Spencer Rattler now joins New Orleans Saints under unique conditions- where his transition period should tell us much regarding what actually caused his disconcertingly swift slipdown in this year’s draft season as things get further explored in the coming months ahead.
