Arizona Attorney General Seeks Delay for Abortion Ban Appeal to US Supreme Court

“PHOENIX – Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has petitioned the state’s highest court to postpone enactment of a drastic abortion ban until she can potentially submit an appeal with the US Supreme Court. Earlier this month, the supreme court permitted the century-old restriction to come into effect in late June. Following last week’s vote by Arizona House legislators, repealing the outdated statute is being deliberated on by Senate lawmakers and expected to be passed during a May 1 session. If approved by both chambers of parliament as well as Governor Katie Hobbs upon its conclusion in mid-May, the annulment would become effective three months after legislative adjournment – around October.”
