Two individuals have been indicted with murder as part of an investigation into human body parts that were discovered scattered across Suffolk County. Jodi Goldberg from FOX 5 NY reported on this case. The prosecution claimed during a court appearance for Jeffrey Mackey and Alexis Nieves, both accused of second-degree homicide in the Long Island dismemberment case, that it is believed that the victims were involved in planning a robbery at a Valero gas station using a knife which was allegedly used to kill them one week later. Inside the courtroom, prosecutors alleged that once Donna Conneely began struggling for breath, Nieves intervened by kicking and then beating her with a meat tenderizer while Mackey repeatedly stabbed both victims and reportedly strangled Conneely as she attempted to intercede. The robbery is claimed to be highly associated with this case, according to the prosecution’s statement in court. Brown, who is related to one of the deceased individuals by blood, was identified as a cousin, while authorities said that the crime had deep connections between the victims and defendants which may have been the cause for these murders. Tierney, Suffolk District Attorney, stated during his remarks at Monday’s court appearance that there is substantial evidence against both accused persons in this case comprising video footage, witness statements as well as forensic evidence, adding further investigation would take time to piece together due to the complexity of these murders. Both Mackey and Nieves have pleaded not guilty to their charges; however, their lawyers argue that officials may be charging the wrong couple since four individuals entered a house but only two were charged with murder. The attorneys for both accused persons also claimed that authorities are focusing too much on their clients while failing to investigate other people who might be involved in this case more thoroughly. Nieves is being held under bail of $10 million, whereas Mackey remains behind bars without the benefit of any bail at all. Both suspects could face life imprisonment if found guilty for top charges against them. They are scheduled to appear back in court on June 3rd. Meanwhile, two other accused individuals – Steven Brown and Amanda Wallace – are expected to be charged with robbery as well as conspiracy during their Tuesday’s appearance at the Riverhead Court. Both suspects have already been indicted for evidence tampering, hindering prosecution, and concealing a human corpse in this case. A week prior to that incident, four teenage high school students had come across an unidentified left arm lying along Siegel Boulevard during their walk towards class around 9 am on Feb.29th; police were called for further investigation at the scene. As detectives continued with investigations in the evening hours of the same day, they discovered a leg and head sticking out from beneath some leaves close to where the male human remains had been previously found in this park near Oakdale-Bohemia State Parkway. Following these discoveries, authorities arrested all four suspects who were later released without bail but forced to surrender their passports as well as wear monitoring devices; they are not allowed to leave the country at present time. A search warrant was executed on Railroad Avenue in Amityville – which is listed under Brown’s name along with Mackey and Wallace – during this investigation, revealing meat cleavers, butcher knives, and bloodstains inside their apartment.
