LOS ANGELES – Kendrick Lamar has delivered a powerful response in the form of his diss track titled “Euphoria,” aimed at Canadian rapper Drake, born Aubrey Graham. The nearly seven-minute song ignited social media frenzy as it accused Drake of fabricating stories and persona.
The feud between Drake and some hip-hop artists has escalated in recent times with an alliance forming against the popular artist. In the soulful introduction, Lamar calls out Drake for being a “pathetic master manipulator” who is guilty of spinning tales around him. He further accuses him of lacking authenticity as a rapper, branding him as nothing more than a fraud attempting to seek acceptance through clothing lines such as Tommy Hilfiger and FUBU (For Us By Us).
The feud between the two artists can be traced back to Lamar’s scathing verse against Drake in Metro Boomin and Future’s “We Don’t Trust You” album. In the song “Like That,” Lamar slammed him, accusing him of being surrounded by goofballs with a check while also implying that he was responsible for causing problems within their community.
The involvement of Kanye West (formerly known as Ye) further exacerbated things as revealed during his conversation last week on “Carnivore Chronicles” podcast hosted by Justin Laboy. According to him, Future called and requested Lamar’s presence in the studio where they worked together to create a track that aimed at eliminating Drake from their community. The entire creative process involved adding chords and bringing along the Hooligans based out of London for assistance.
Drake responded by releasing two tracks titled “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle.” However, his second attempt didn’t go as planned when he used artificial intelligence to intimidate 2Pac’s voice in the latter track. This move did not sit well with Pac’s estate who threatened him with legal action.
Other artists involved in this rap civil war include Rick Ross, The Weeknd and A$AP Rocky. Earlier this month J. Cole had thrown some subtle jabs at Lamar through his album “Might Delete Later.” Although he did not delete the entire project as initially suggested by its title, he later apologized for releasing a diss track titled “7 Minute Drill.”
Fans of these two heavyweight hip-hop stars have eagerly been following every twist and turn in this feud. Listeners can now enjoy Lamar’s latest response to Drake’s tracks via “Euphoria,” which is available for streaming here.
