Doctor Who” Enters New Era with First Black Actor and Global Streaming Partnership with Disney+

In addition to its traditional broadcast on the BBC, “Doctor Who” is now being globally streamed through a partnership between the BBC and Disney’s streaming service, Disney+. This marks a new era for the long-running science fiction series, with Ncuti Gatwa becoming the first Black actor to take on the iconic role of the Time Lord. Joining Gatwa in the new series is Millie Gibson, best known for her work on the popular UK soap opera “Coronation Street”. Gatwa, who gained fame through his performance in the Netflix series “Sex Education”, has promised that viewers can expect new villains and monsters, as well as an opportunity for the Doctor to explore unfamiliar territory. Audiences can catch the new series on Disney+ from Friday, with the BBC airing it from Saturday. The show’s popularity has endured since its debut in 1963, thanks in no small part to the ability of the Doctor to regenerate and take on new forms, played by different actors over the years. The partnership with Disney+ represents an exciting new chapter for “Doctor Who”, as it seeks to engage a wider international audience.
