Multi-Day Dangerous Thunderstorm Outbreak Across Central US: Golf Ball to Baseball Hail, Strong Tornadoes, and Heavy Rainfall from Thursday through Sunday

The central United States will experience a multi-day spell of dangerous thunderstorms, starting from Thursday and continuing through Sunday. The severe weather threat spans over two or three consecutive days for several cities including Dallas, Kansas City, Des Moines, and Omaha. A classic springtime setup with moist air flowing in from the Gulf of Mexico is contributing to this hazardous situation as heat builds up in the region. On Thursday evening, fierce storms will sweep across Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Texas before expanding into Oklahoma overnight. The potential for large hailstones, damaging winds, and tornadoes exists during these thunderstorms with some areas facing extreme hazards such as golf ball to baseball-sized hails and strong twisters (at least EF2 strength) in western Kansas. Heavy rainfall is also expected on Thursday night that could result in flooding across several states like Nebraska, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas. Friday’s stormy conditions will develop in the mid to late afternoon in eastern Nebraska before heading towards Iowa and Missouri through the evening. This round of thunderstorm activity may feature damaging wind gusts, hail up to baseball size, and strong tornadoes. Some additional severe thunderstorm cells might appear in Oklahoma or Texas later Friday night, carrying high risks for damage caused by winds or large-sized hails. A potentially deadly day could be Saturday if certain atmospheric conditions align as stormy weather is forecasted across the southern and central Plains during afternoon hours. However, if lingering thunderstorms remain until morning, there may not be enough time to fully recharge before new severe storm systems occur by noon resulting in significantly fewer possibilities of experiencing the greatest risk. Additionally, the atmospheric conditions could allow for a significant rainfall event with some areas potentially recording close to 5 inches within a short period, which would increase risks for dangerous flash flooding across Oklahoma and other states like Texas or Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon. The exact timing, extent, and strength of storms expected over this weekend are heavily dependent upon Saturday’s activities; the forecast suggests possible occurrences including damaging wind gusts and hail, isolated tornadoes, heavy rainfall with potential flooding risks in several states from Texas to Wisconsin on Sunday. By Monday, severe weather is predicted to become more sporadic only limited across some coastal regions near Gulf of Mexico due to this potentially lethal series that will last for four days straight.
