In response to the recent arrests of three Indian men in Canada for the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the Indian government has raised concerns over Canada’s alleged provision of shelter to individuals promoting violence against India. Spokesperson for the Indian External Affairs Ministry, Randhir Jaiswal, accused Canada of allowing entry and residency to individuals involved in organized crime in India while stating that many of their extradition requests remain pending. Jaiswal further alleged that Indian diplomats have faced intimidation and obstruction in their duties in Canada, prompting discussions at the diplomatic level regarding the matter. The killings of Sikh separatists in Canada have sparked a diplomatic dispute between the two nations, with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau previously accusing India of involvement in Nijjar’s death. However, India has denied such claims. The three detained men, identified as Kamalpreet Singh, Karan Brar, and Karanpreet Singh, have been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Their trial will commence in British Columbia Provincial Court on May 21st. The Canadian Royal Mounted Police are still investigating if the accused have connections to the Indian government. The suspects were residing in Canada under temporary residency permits.
