The social media world erupted when the Atlanta Falcons selected Michael Penix Jr., formerly from Washington, in the eighth overall pick during Thursday night’s draft. This decision left fans baffled as they had recently signed Kirk Cousins to a whopping $180 million contract. It appears this selection does not make much sense on paper at first glance.
The internet did what it does best and unleashed an array of humorous reactions in response to the surprising pick. Many questioned why the Falcons would burn their first-round choice on a quarterback when they already secured Cousins’ services for such an astronomical fee. Moreover, there was no immediate necessity for them to choose Penix so early in the draft since it could have been possible that he might still be available later at around pick 23 or beyond if they had traded back instead of selecting him eighth overall.
The social media community’s response to this move has not exactly been favorable, with many users taking aim and sharing their opinions via platforms such as Twitter, Reddit etcetera, leading up a collective torrent of disdain on the Falcons for what appears like an impulsive decision at best. Only time will tell whether Penix’s selection was indeed worth it or not!
