JAKKS Pacific has recalled around 17,500 of its Mario Kart ride-on racer cars due to the possibility that debris clogging the acceleration pedal could cause an accident. The affected toy is a red, white and blue vehicle with the letter “M” in the center of a white circle on the front. Manufacturing codes impacted by this recall include 1752VE01, 1782VE01, 1952VE01, 2242VE01, 2352VE01, 2852VE01 and 0583VE01. These codes can be found underneath the vehicle at the bottom of a blue panel. It has come to JAKKS Pacific’s notice through consumer complaints that clogged debris could cause the acceleration pedal to stick, posing a hazard for crashes into permanent structures in 15 cases out of the total 65 reports received by the company regarding this issue so far. While there is only one report confirming an injury caused by such accidents – involving chafed hands – owners are being asked immediately stop using their Mario Kart toy and reach JAKKS Pacific via phone at (855) 602-5464 for a free repair kit that includes placement pedal installation instructions. The recalled toys were sold online as well as in retail stores including Target, Walmart, Entertainment Earth and Nebraska Furniture Market between October 2022 to January 2023 at an approximate price of $400 each.
