Zakaria Calls for Tougher Border Measures from Biden, Cites Exploitation by Cartels and Broken Asylum System

In a recent interview on PBS’s “Firing Line”, CNN host Fareed Zakaria asserted that some of former President Trump’s border policies were objectively correct and that current asylum rules are being exploited by cartels. Zakaria suggested that President Biden should learn from Trump’s actions, particularly regarding the asylum system, which is currently being “gamed by millions of people”. He recommended that Biden should adopt a more extreme approach, such as declaring an emergency national security crisis, sending the National Guard, shutting down the amnesty process, and redoing the system. Zakaria pointed out that while many of Trump’s policies were overturned by the courts, the public still saw that he was trying to secure the border. He emphasized that Biden should do something symbolic at the border to demonstrate his commitment to addressing the issue. Overall, Zakaria argued that the entire asylum system needs to be reformed as it is currently broken.
