Selena Gomez Proudly Advocates for Mental Health through Rare Beauty’s Mission-Driven Approach

Selena Gomez has achieved notable accomplishments in her acting, music, and business ventures; however, she is most proud of the efforts she has made towards destigmatizing mental illness. During a recent appearance at the 2024 TIME 100 Summit, the “Only Murders in the Building” star shared that her cosmetics company Rare Beauty brings her joy not solely because it’s popular but also due to its charitable initiatives. Founded in 2020, Rare Beauty donates one percent of each sale towards the Rare Impact Fund, which aims to increase accessibility to mental health services and education for young individuals globally. By 2030, this organization hopes to raise $100 million. Gomez expressed her satisfaction with the brand’s mission-driven approach as it goes beyond just promoting products; instead, they foster conversations about essential topics while making a difference in people’s lives. In fact, she shared that without Rare Beauty’s commitment towards mental health advocacy, she wouldn’t have considered entering the cosmetics industry at all. The brand reportedly generated $350 million last year, as mentioned by Business of Fashion, while Bloomberg claimed earlier this month that Gomez is mulling offers to sell Rare Beauty for up to $2 billion; however, she intends on remaining involved with the business even after a sale.
