The Gems Hidden in Rounds Two and Three of the NFL Draft

Here’s my take: The second and third rounds of the NFL Draft often determine whether a team wins or loses, as many talented players are still available at this point in the draft. While cornerbacks were expected to be snapped up early on, they didn’t go until later picks due to the position being incredibly deep this year. Now is definitely the time for teams looking for defensive talent to make their moves.

Last season, Brian Branch was a standout player who fell during the NFL Draft because his combine results weren’t impressive enough. However, the Detroit Lions were quick to recognize his potential and snatched him up in round two. This year, Kamren Kinchens could have a similar impact for any team that picks him up early on day two of the draft – he reminds me a lot of Brian Branch!

DeJean was another player who surprised many by not being selected during the first round. However, his versatility makes him an incredibly valuable asset to any defense as he can play both cornerback and safety positions depending on team needs. It’s clear that Dejean is a talented individual with lots of potential!

Patrick Surtain II was another player who seemed destined for the first round, but ended up being selected in round two instead due to the depth at his position this year. However, McKinstry has an excellent name and solid cornerback skills that make him a standout choice – he’s good both covering opponents and tackling them!

Newton is another player who I believe should have been picked up during the first round but wasn’t due to teams focusing more on EDGE players these days. However, having someone like Newton in the middle of your defensive line can really help you out by clogging running lanes and disrupting opposing offenses!

Mitchell was another player who surprised many by not being selected during round one – he has all the talent to be a first-round pick but fell due to this year’s deep wide receiver draft. However, Mitchell is an incredibly talented individual with big body size that makes him great at making contested catches! Teams looking for playmakers on offense should definitely keep their eyes peeled for Mitchell during day two of the NFL Draft!
