King Charles III Resumes Public Duties after Cancer Treatment; Wife Joins at London Center Visit

King Charles III will return to carrying out public duties next week after undergoing treatment for cancer, Buckingham Palace announced on Friday. The 75-year-old monarch’s wife Queen Camilla will join him during a visit to a cancer treatment center in London on Tuesday where they will meet medical specialists and patients. This is the first of several engagements Charles is expected to undertake over the coming weeks, with the palace confirming that he would host Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako for a state visit in June. The King’s doctors are “sufficiently pleased” with his progress so far following treatment but it remains unclear how long this will continue or whether Charles will be able to attend other upcoming events, including the Trooping of the Colour celebrations and commemorations marking 80 years since D-Day in June. Buckingham Palace also clarified that although each engagement would be managed carefully “to minimize any risks” during his recovery, there are no further details about Charles’ condition or treatment plan being shared at this time. The King has continued to carry out constitutional duties throughout his treatment and received royal assent for UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s contentious plans to send asylum seekers to Rwanda earlier in the week. Meanwhile, Catherine, Princess of Wales revealed her own cancer battle last month but has not been seen on official public duties since Christmas Day.
