Greg Gutfeld and his guests discussed Don Lemon’s announcement about his new show on X during ‘Gutfeld!’. Despite being fired from CNN last year, the former anchor remains a staunch defender of the network. During an interview with The Intercept’s Ryan Grim, Lemon was questioned regarding CNN’s coverage while he worked there. Grim accused CNN of becoming “a Democratic mouthpiece,” to which Lemon responded that it is okay for journalists to have opinions and that pointing out lies does not make someone a Democrat supporter. Jashinsky pushed back on this statement by bringing up the media’s Russiagate coverage, stating that it was “not great.” However, Lemon defended CNN’s Russia coverage as good during its time and advised accepting things how they are and learning lessons instead of regretting past decisions. Earlier in the interview, Lemon clarified his laughter on a January 2020 segment where he mocked Trump voters alongside Rick Wilson by stating that he did not make any comments about Americans’ intelligence levels. In another incident during last year’s election season, Lemon accused Trump supporters of having “cognitive dissonance” and liking racism and misogyny while comparing them to drug addicts who were on the side of Klansmen and Nazis. While promoting his new show on X, Lemon left open the possibility of returning to CNN as most people involved in his ousting have departed from the network since then.
