Joel Embiid, star center of the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team, revealed on Thursday that he has been dealing with Bell’s Palsy over the past ten days while his squad faced off against their rivals from New York in an intense series. Following Game 3’s win by Philly where Embiid scored a record-breaking fifty points, he disclosed to reporters about this recent diagnosis that affects facial muscles and leads to partial paralysis on one side of the face.
In particular, for Joel’s case, his left face has been impacted during these ongoing matches against Knicks in their playoff series. Bell’s Palsy symptoms first appeared after Embiid faced off with Miami Heat at a tournament held earlier this month (April 17). Though treatment is currently underway by the reigning MVP, it seems as if his diagnosis isn’t healing yet- perhaps lasting anywhere between weeks and months.
Embiid shared that he has been experiencing migraines along with rapid dryness in his left eye. During Monday’s Game Two broadcast, viewers observed slight stiffness on Embiid’s facial muscles causing concerns; they watched the NBA athlete struggle when closing only one of eyes for a free throw attempt as both didn’t synchronize together.
Embiid stated that this condition has been “pretty annoying” and is affecting his left side, including mouth movements and eye paralysis. However, he clarified that it wouldn’t stop him from playing- Embiid is not one to quit easily or let the situation discourage him in any way; instead, he considers it as an unfortunate circumstance but won’t use this condition as a scapegoat for his performance on court.
Embiid has been wearing glasses during postgame interviews due to partial paralysis of facial muscles- which Embiid confirmed was caused by Bell’s Palsy symptoms. He further added that the diagnosis hasn’t shown any significant progress despite numerous treatments consulted but intends hope as every possible health crisis eventually recedes – at least for him, his handsome face should stay intact after this situation has passed on!
