Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s CNN interview was interrupted by a protester with blood-curdling screams during an appearance to discuss his presidential campaign against former President Donald Trump and current Democratic candidate Joe Biden. However, the focus shifted as Kennedy responded to allegations made by Trump on social media that he is a “Democrat plant” who would be a wasted protest vote for Republicans.
Kennedy challenged Trump to a debate in response, stating that when frightened men take to social media they risk descending into vitriol and should resolve their claims through the American tradition of presidential debates. Kennedy argued that during his presidency, Trump betrayed the hopes of his most sincere followers by colluding with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Biden to fund the Ukraine war.
Kennedy also claimed that as president, Trump let big pharmaceutical companies run roughshod over him while he promised to cut deficits but instead ran up the biggest debt in history. He accused Trump of closing down businesses during his presidency despite promising to drain the swamp and protect constitutional rights. Kennedy urged Trump to defend his record against accusations that RFK Jr.’s campaign was put forward as a ploy by Democrats to help Biden get re-elected, calling it “a wasted protest vote.”
Trump previously attacked Kennedy on TRUTH Social, labeling him an anti-gun and environmental radical who is totally opposed to guns. He also accused RFK Jr.’s family of never allowing him to be a Republican due to his extreme views against the military and veterans. Trump’s post continued by claiming that while living in New York at the same time as Kennedy, he watched the former Democrat convince Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) “to make environmental moves” that were outright nasty for upstate New York residents who weren’t allowed to drill or frack like Ohio and Pennsylvania did.
Trump concluded by stating that RFK Jr.’s views on vaccines are fake, as is everything else about his campaign. He added: “Let the Democrats have RFK Jr. They deserve him!” Kennedy has recently chosen technology executive Nicole Shanahan as his running mate in what could be a historic bid for office if he manages to secure enough signatures by July’s deadline to appear on ballots across multiple states, including California and Texas where more than half of the Electoral College votes are located.
